Najat Nahshal

My name is Najat Nahshal, and I am a PhD Candidate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Detroit Mercy.  I am currently working on my dissertation research where I hope to assess how Arab American Muslim emerging adults from different regions of origin (i.e., Levant, Arabian Peninsula, and North Africa) differ on their sense of filial responsibility (children's responsibilities towards their parents), acculturation, and psychosocial adjustment (psychological distress and intergenerational conflict).   I am also currently the MY Mental Wellness (MMW) Department Coordinator at the Islamic Center of Detroit. As it stands today, MMW is the only mental health department to be embedded into an Islamic community center/mosque.  Moreover, I will be completing my year-long APA-accredited Psychology internship at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center beginning in July 2021.  As an enthused activist who is passionate about all-things social justice, I am honored to be a member of ACTPAC and look forward to making an impact through this organization!
